SXSW Keynote: Smokey Robinson
"Robinson was a pivotal figure in the history of Motown, both as a performer and a songwriter. He was still releasing new records in 2010 and performed at SXSW. For his Keynote, he was interviewed by Dave Marsh, who grew up in Detroit and talked about how Motown (and Robinson in particular) helped him overcome the virulently racist attitudes that he grew up around. During the session, Robinson delved into his own youth in the Motor City and the lasting power of music, as well as the history of Motown and his relationship with Berry Gordy. "
